Authority and responsibility matrix, also known as R.A.C.I. Matrix, is a tool of management that takes an active role in processes and is useful for both clarifying and solving functions, critical activities, uncertainty, and gray areas at decision points, with well-organized teamwork. R.A.C.I. 6 is one of the methods applied in Sigma project management. It is important to comprise data processes that are well designed, transformed into documents, and put into practice. But the roles that individuals take need to be defined clearly in every step which is included in the process so that the indicated business processes can proceed sturdily. What Are the Duties of the Authority and Responsibility Matrix? (RACI Matrix)

In businesses that are carried out by different functions in the organization or any project, R.A.C.I. Matrix is responsible for:

  • planning the basic activities,
  • defining the critical decisions,
  • explaining the authorities and responsibilities,
  • determining the sponsors of the business.

Authority and Responsibility Matrix (R.A.C.I) Divisions of Labor

The divisions of labor of the authority and responsibility matrix, that is R.A.C.I., can be explained as follows in general terms:

Responsible (R) is the person who does the job. This responsibility is assigned directly to the person who does the activity or the duty.

Accountable (A) is the person who is responsible for giving an account. It is the person who has the ultimate authority and responsibility for an assigned duty. For the status, only this person is responsible. It cannot delegate to other people in any way.

Consulted (C) is the person who provides input. They are the people who must be inquired or consulted to carry out a duty.

Informed (I) is the person who provides a flow of information. They are the people who are important to give information after the duty is carried out.
